Dear Wittenberg,

As we begin the hard and sacred work of Holy Week I keep wondering how to reflect on the life, death, and resurrection of Christ in a way that is genuine, honest, and also new. How can we hear this familiar story in a new way? How can we keep the certain joy of the resurrection deep inside our bones and bodies so that we carry it with us into the next season of our lives?

I hope that one way we can stay connected to that joy is through the life of this church. We have plenty of things happening! Lutheran Men, Prayer Groups, Congregational Life, Worship and Music, Property, and Social Ministries are all busy. If you’ve ever thought, “we should do…” then joining one of these committees is the perfect way to share your good ideas with the church!

If you have been thinking about getting more involved,

consider THIS your invitation!

Just let Pastor Heather know if you are interested in joining one of these groups! There is much to be done, and we want you to have a say and a voice in our activities.

So many folks are working especially hard in this season at Wittenberg. Let’s make sure and say “thank you” for the extra effort this spring! For the hard work of the Finance Committee and the Council, and especially Allen Gould for faithfully creating a spending plan for WLC, we give thanks to God. We give thanks to God for the extra efforts of our musicians, Tina Brown and Phillip Burgess, and to our choir director, Clay and the whole choir. Jeff Jones and the hand-bells have been making a joyful noise as well, and we give thanks for their contributions. The AV Teams and Christy and the Altar Guild have done an incredible job at preparing for, and implementing all of the services! While worship is just one of the many things we do at Wittenberg it is our most complex tasks and takes many people with many gifts to create and implement.

As you can see it takes many, many, people and all kinds of gifts to sustain the work of being the church in every season. Is God calling you into a deeper connection through service at Wittenberg?

Blessings abound!

Pastor Heather

Dear Wittenberg, It’s that time of the year when our bodies begin yearning for warmth and comfort, cozy clothes and hot meals. It’s also getting to be that time of the year that we get busier and busier. We may find it hard to slow down and appreciate the goodness all around us. So many of us have been taught that the celebrations of Thanksgiving and Christmas demand unrealistic perfection, a certain meal, a special outfit, a perfect home. I remember my own mother, run ragged from...

Dear Wittenberg, It was my honor and delight to get to deliver Meals-on-Wheels this week as a part of Wittenberg’s service to that agency. (Thanks to Linda Trier, Nancy Trexler, and Sandra Phillips who also delivered this week, and to Joy Fisher for keeping us all coordinated all year long!) You may not know that I worked as the route coordinator for Meals-on-Wheels in Forsyth County for several years; this work is precious and was formative to my understanding of our call as people to reach...

Dear Wittenberg, Even though it’s about 90 degrees as I write this, I hear Autumn is around the corner! You’ll notice that we have a lot coming up at Wittenberg this fall! Information about those events can be found in this newsletter. During this season of new starts and new seasons we find ourselves asking, “How will we get new members?” Those are good questions, but we have to first ask, “Why do we want new members?” This question came up at our recent Executive Council meeting. While we...
